You be the judge. The significant 3 month renovation of my Lahaina Shores Beach Resort sixth floor mountain view studio is now complete (7/14/08). This includes an all new kitchen with solid wood cabinetry and features an oven range and microhood, a sleek vanity room, walk in shower with a transparent glass side wall, Mexican travertine and ceramic tile floors and shower walls, new carpeting, etc. The Hansgrohe wall bar shower is the same as you sometimes find in 4 star hotels.


Budget minded? My comfortable fifth floor studio #520 is available at $15 less per night. (See rate charts later on.) Current photos overprinted with "Studio #520" may be seen in the photo album.

The artist/owner has tastefully furnished his centrally air conditioned, mountain facing studios. The firm California king bed in both units, along with the carpeted bedroom / living area, make these desirable retreats. Also, there's a rollaway bed with standard size mattress for a third guest.

In each unit, the fully equipped kitchen is complete with full size appliances, a microwave, cookware, dishes and utensils. Plenty of linens and towels (as well as beach towels) are provided. And you can leave your hair dryer and iron at home. Bring your own CD's! There's a CD/tape/FM stereo player. There's also cable TV with VCR. The direct phone allows free local calling. High speed internet cable access is also available.

These 550 sq. ft. studios consist of a bath and/or walk in shower with a separate vanity room, a dining area and a large living/bedroom area. Also, there's a coin-op laundry room on each floor.

In addition to the complete furnishings of a vacation home, you are provided with the "niceties" of a beachfront resort hotel including an open, breezy, comfortably furnished lobby, central air conditioning, large swimming pool, large jacuzzi, BBQ, 24 hr.front desk, etc.

The central air conditioning has individual electronic controls. The entryway, the lobby, elevators and hallways have been completely remodeled, no doubt inspired by early Hawaiian plantation mansions.


At 475 Front St., this is the only beachfront resort in Lahaina. It's just a 3/10 mile walk down Front St. to quaint, historic Lahaina Town itself . . . Maui's storied shop-'til-you-drop, gallery hopping, dining & partying mecca.

On site parking is $3.65 per night payable at the front desk. Also, there is a coin operated commercial grade laundry room on each floor. There are no other charges.

The property is fronted by the ocean and has a beach which is excellent for sunbathing, safe swimming and snorkeling. (There's a reef about 150 yds. out which protects the beach from surf.) The large, manicured swimming pool area between the building and the beach is enhanced with umbrella'd tables & chairs, plus loungers for reading, sunning and snoozing. There's even a heated, bubbling, jacuzzi spa!

World class golf (think Sony Open), deep sea fishing and all water activities are available nearby.

Room with a view . . . of the West Maui Mountains as seen from the lanai. The mountains are oftimes rainbow enhanced, especially toward evening. Both 550 sq. ft. studios provide an unobstructed view, whereas most lower floor units do not.

That's not a toilet ghost, it's a reflection in the glass. Duh!

There's extra cabinet space in the mirrored hallway closet.
